How do I go about finding a registered elementary school teacher to work part time and home school my kids?

August 30th, 2009 | by |

I want to home school my two daughters who are going into 2nd and 4th grades and want to hire an elementary school teacher part time to do this. I have absolutely no idea how to find someone who can come to our home and teach the girls under the California curriculum and who has all their own teaching materials and who has all the correct credentials as well as at least a year classroom teaching experience?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Most homeschool parents do the teaching themselves. There are 4options in California – it seems you need more info on how to start. Here is a resource.

I would contact any local colleges or universities near you and ask about new or recent graduates. They will likely have the licensing requirements, curriculum knowledge, and if not a year of teaching, they should have some student teacher and classroom experience under their belt. You could look into sending out a help wanted ad through the school, then take applications and follow up on references. A lot of times college students will be fresh and exciting, plus they may not have the same higher salary requirements of someone with more experience.
