i feel trapped in the school system and want to get a real education so that i can prepare myself for going out on my own, but my parents aren't into the home-schooling idea since they don't want to "teach" me or have me teach myself. since they don't like the school system very much either, they said they'd be open to the idea of taking me out of school, but only if i found an alternative that they could work with. so here i am. are there any other alternative schooling programs that i can do?

According to Judge Walter Croski, parents do not have the constitutional right to home school their children. In the state of California there are about 160,000 children home schooled. Califonia teaching requirements say you must have a Bachlors Degree and pass a battery of test given by the state in order to be a teacher. The Judge also wants anyone who is not Califonia Certified teacher and homeschools their children to face stiff penalties.

I know that it is legal for parents who home school their children to issue a diploma when they meet the graduation requirements set out for them, but does anyone know where we can find this in writing for the sake of keeping things moving smoothly at my graduation in May?
That's what I thought as it's pretty common knowledge among home schoolers that we can do this... Can anyone cite anything that says we can't? If not, then I'm not worried.

I am from a place with very difficult home school laws. I would love to hear from parents in states with less restrictive laws.
Very interesting. Are all other states DIFFICULT? Please respond with your home school experience, even if negative. Thank you for all answers. I am extending the expiration hoping for other answers.
I'm presently working locally to improve my state's home study laws, which are quite restrictive. Any links to good home school laws would be helpful. Thanks so much for the answers so far.

I am addressing this question to parents that home school their children and follow Christ. What are you so afraid of that you choose to limit your children's exposure to you and your views alone? God is testing the faith of his creation (humans assuming we are the only ones being tested) constantly according you. So doesn't it make sense to let your kids be exposed to others and coming back to you for answers or guidance? Exposing them to only you and people like you is not preparing them but setting them up for shocks as young adults. Do you worry about this with your children?
